Initial session / assessment
This initial session is an opportunity for you to explore why you are thinking of starting therapy, whether continued counselling would be appropriate to your needs. It is also an opportunity for us to get to know each other and this meeting will give you a chance to see whether you feel comfortable working with me.
By entering counselling you are making an important commitment to yourself; it involves courage, time, money and a great deal of honest self-searching. During this first session we will discuss the number of sessions we would be working together.
I believe it is the relationship between client and counsellor, more than any other factor, which determines the effectiveness of therapy. It is important that you feel I am the appropriate counsellor for you.
Confidentiality:
Confidentiality is essential in therapy. Although, in line with BACP and COSRT guidelines, I receive regular clinical supervision, where I discuss my work; your identity will remain confidential.
I would only break confidentiality when required by law (which is very rare) or if I consider that you are a danger to your self or to others. However, I will discuss my concerns with you before breaking confidentiality if at all possible.
Commitment:
Regularity and continuity are important in good therapy, they give a reliable feeling of structure to the whole process and underline the commitment you have made to yourself.
Sessions can be once a week or on a fortnightly basis and last 50 minutes.
Fees:
£90 per 50-minute session for individual therapy
£130 per 50-minute session for relationship therapy
Cancellation policy:
I operate a 72-hour cancellation policy.
